Laser Hair Removal
in Dubai.

Treatment that targets the follicle itself, so regrowth slows and eventually stops in most treated areas.

01 / Technology

Two wavelengths,
one tailored plan.

Alexandrite 755nm and Nd:YAG 1064nm, matched to your skin and hair rather than one setting for everyone.

02 / Skin type

From fair to deeply
pigmented skin.

Settings are chosen after assessing your Fitzpatrick skin type and hair colour.

03 / Results

Permanent
hair reduction.

Most patients need 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Overview

Why unwanted hair keeps coming back.

Unwanted hair keeps coming back because shaving and waxing only remove hair above the skin. Laser hair removal targets the follicle itself, so regrowth slows and eventually stops in most treated areas.

At Medilife Wellness Clinic in Dubai, we treat the face, body, and bikini area using dual-wavelength technology suited to the skin tones and hair types common across the UAE's diverse population from fair to deeply pigmented skin.

How it works

Dual-wavelength technology.

We use Alexandrite 755nm and Nd:YAG 1064nm — combining two laser types so we can match the wavelength to your skin and hair rather than using one setting for everyone.

Lighter skin, darker hair

Alexandrite 755nm

Works fastest on lighter skin with darker hair. The shorter wavelength is absorbed strongly by melanin in the follicle, which means fewer passes are usually needed on fair-to-medium skin.

Medium, dark and deeply pigmented skin

Nd:YAG 1064nm

The longer wavelength passes more safely through melanin-rich skin, which is why it's the safer choice for medium-to-dark and deeply pigmented skin tones. It reduces the risk of burns or pigment changes that shorter wavelengths can cause on darker skin.

Integrated contact cooling

Both wavelengths heat the hair follicle enough to disable it without damaging the surrounding skin. Integrated contact cooling (DCD — dynamic cooling device, or equivalent contact-cooling tip) cools the skin surface immediately before and during each pulse, which is what keeps the treatment tolerable and lowers the risk of surface burns, especially on sensitive areas like the bikini line and upper lip.

Settings chosen per patient

We select the wavelength, pulse duration, and fluence per patient after assessing your Fitzpatrick skin type and hair colour/density — not a fixed setting for every client.

Skin types

Is it safe for your skin type?

Most Dubai clinic pages just say “safe for all skin types” without explaining why. Here's the actual breakdown by Fitzpatrick skin type, since this determines which wavelength and settings we use.

I–II
Skin tone:Very fair to fair
Laser used:Alexandrite 755nm
Notes:Fastest results; lower risk of pigment change
III–IV
Skin tone:Light to olive/medium brown
Laser used:Alexandrite or Nd:YAG, assessed per patient
Notes:Common across UAE residents; wavelength chosen after a patch test
V–VI
Skin tone:Brown to deeply pigmented
Laser used:Nd:YAG 1064nm
Notes:Longer wavelength reduces burn/pigmentation risk; more sessions may be needed

Hair colour matters as much as skin tone

Laser targets melanin in the hair, so dark, coarse hair responds best. Blonde, grey, red, or very fine hair has little melanin for the laser to target and typically shows limited results with any laser system — we'll tell you honestly during consultation if your hair type isn't a good candidate rather than sell you sessions that won't work.

Areas we treat

Areas we treat.

For women

  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Full face
  • Underarms
  • Half/full arms
  • Bikini line
  • Full bikini/Brazilian
  • Half/full legs
  • Back
  • Abdomen

For men

  • Beard line/neckline shaping
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Shoulders
  • Abdomen
  • Underarms
  • Arms
  • Legs

Men's hair is typically coarser and denser, so treatment protocols and session counts often differ.

Full body

Most patients combine several areas into a full-body package rather than booking them separately, which is usually more cost-effective.

Bikini and intimate areas

From a classic bikini line to full Brazilian/Hollywood. This is one of the most-booked areas in Dubai and needs a practitioner experienced with sensitive-area settings and cooling.

Face

Upper lip, chin, sideburns, and full face for women; beard-line definition for men. Facial skin is thinner and more visible, so we use lower fluence and more conservative settings here.

We avoid direct treatment immediately around the eyes and will flag any area unsuitable for laser during your consultation.

Laser vs. electrolysis

Laser hair removal vs. electrolysis.

Both are recognised long-term hair removal methods, but they work differently and suit different situations.

How it works
Laser hair removal:Targets melanin in hair via light energy
Electrolysis:Targets each follicle individually with an electric current
Best for
Laser hair removal:Larger areas, dark/coarse hair, faster coverage
Electrolysis:Any hair colour (including blonde/grey/red), small areas
Speed
Laser hair removal:Minutes per area, full body in about an hour
Electrolysis:Slower — one follicle at a time
Sessions
Laser hair removal:Typically 6–8 sessions
Electrolysis:Often more sessions over a longer period
Result
Laser hair removal:Significant, long-term hair reduction
Electrolysis:Can achieve permanent removal per treated follicle

If your hair is dark and coarse, laser is usually faster and more cost-effective. If you have light or grey hair, or need a very small precise area cleared permanently, electrolysis may be the better fit — we'll advise honestly at consultation rather than push one option.

Sessions

How many sessions, and is it permanent?

Hair grows in cycles, and laser only disables follicles that are in the active growth phase at the time of treatment — which is why one session is never enough. Most patients need 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, to catch hair across all growth cycles.

  1. 1

    Sessions 1–3

The most noticeable reduction in density and regrowth speed.

  2. 2

    Sessions 4–6

Hair becomes finer, sparser, and slower to regrow.

  3. 3

    Sessions 7–8

    Maintenance-level results for most patients.

Permanent hair reduction

“Permanent hair reduction” is the accurate clinical term, not “permanent hair removal” — laser significantly and durably reduces hair, but hormonal changes (pregnancy, PCOS, menopause, certain medications) can trigger new growth years later. Most patients maintain results with an occasional touch-up session every 12–18 months rather than starting over. We'll set realistic expectations at your consultation based on your hair type, area, and hormonal factors rather than promise permanence outright.

Prices

What affects your price

The size and number of areas, how many sessions you commit to upfront (packages cost less per session than pay-as-you-go), and skin/hair characteristics that may require more sessions. We recommend booking a free consultation so pricing is based on your actual treatment plan, not a generic estimate.

Your appointment

What happens at your appointment.

  1. 01

    Consultation and skin assessment

We review your medical history, current medications, and skin/hair type, and do a patch test if needed. This is also when we confirm realistic expectations and a session plan.

  2. 02

    Preparation

The area is cleaned and shaved immediately before treatment (hair needs to be at the follicle, not on the surface, for the laser to work safely).

  3. 03

    Treatment

The practitioner selects wavelength, fluence, and pulse settings for your skin/hair combination and treats the area with continuous cooling. Small areas take minutes; full body takes about an hour.

  4. 04

    Aftercare instructions

You'll be given specific sun-protection and skincare guidance before you leave.

  5. 05

    Next session booking

Sessions are spaced 4–6 weeks apart so we book your next appointment before you go.

Before & after

Before and after your session.

Before your appointment

  • Shave the area 24 hours before (don't wax, pluck, or epilate for at least 4 weeks prior — the follicle needs to be intact for the laser to target it).
  • Avoid sun exposure and self-tanning products for 2 weeks before treatment; tanned or sunburnt skin increases the risk of pigmentation issues and may mean we need to postpone.
  • Skip retinoids and exfoliating actives on the area for a few days prior if advised by your practitioner.

After your appointment

  • Mild redness and slight swelling around each follicle is normal and usually settles within an hour to a day.
  • Avoid sun exposure, saunas, hot showers, and swimming pools for 24–48 hours.
  • Apply SPF 50 to treated areas for at least 2 weeks after — Dubai sun makes this non-negotiable for avoiding pigmentation.
  • Don't wax or pluck between sessions; shaving is fine if regrowth appears.

We give every patient written aftercare instructions specific to the area treated — the above is general guidance, not a substitute for your practitioner's advice.

Safety

Safety and who should avoid it.

Laser hair removal is a well-established, regulated procedure, but it isn't right for everyone. Tell us during consultation if any of the following apply, so we can advise honestly.

  • Pregnancy (laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy)
  • Active skin infections, open wounds, or recent sunburn on the treatment area
  • Isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the last 6 months
  • A history of keloid scarring or photosensitivity disorders
  • Certain medications that increase photosensitivity — bring your medication list to your consultation
  • Recently tanned skin (natural or self-tan)

Side effects

Common, temporary side effects include redness, mild swelling, and follicle-level sensitivity for a few hours to a day. Rare risks include pigment changes or blistering, which is why correct wavelength selection for your skin tone and a qualified practitioner matter more than the marketing claims on the machine.

Medical oversight

Treatments at Medilife Wellness Clinic are overseen by our General Practitioners, Dr. Mauada Siddig (10+ years' experience) and Dr. Marina Girgis (7 years' experience).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most patients describe it as a warm snapping sensation, similar to a rubber band flick. Integrated cooling reduces discomfort, and sensitive areas (bikini, upper lip) can feel more noticeable than larger areas like legs or back.

Is it safe for dark or tanned skin?

Yes, when the correct wavelength (Nd:YAG 1064nm) and settings are used. This is exactly why we assess skin type before every treatment rather than using one setting for all patients.

How soon will I see results?

Most patients notice slower regrowth and finer hair after the second or third session. Full results build across the full 6–8 session course.

Can I shave between sessions?

Yes — shaving is fine and recommended if hair regrows. Waxing, plucking, or epilating between sessions is not, since it removes the follicle the laser needs to target.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

It provides long-term, significant hair reduction rather than removal that's guaranteed forever. Hormonal changes can trigger some regrowth years later; most patients maintain results with occasional touch-ups.

How much does it cost in Dubai?

Pricing depends on area size and number of sessions; see the price ranges above, or book a consultation for a plan tailored to you.

Can men get laser hair removal?

Yes — men's hair is typically coarser and denser, which often means adjusted settings and session counts. Full details: Laser Hair Removal for Men in Dubai.
